Global Health Exchange

Government College of Nursing, Thiruvananthapuram constantly strives to achieve excellence in the field of education. We are one of the pioneer institutions to conduct Global Health Exchange programmes in Kerala which aims to provide knowledge about the variation on global disease panorama and variation in health services in different countries.
Our first exchange programme was started in the year 1999 with Karolinska Institute, Sweden which provided opportunities to students and faculty from other countries to visit the college and understand the social, cultural and economic factors interest and determine the health and availability of health services. During the exchange programme post graduate students, undergraduate students along with faculty from Sweden visited the college. Along with that faculty as well as students from our college visited Sweden as part of the exchange Programme of L.P (Linnaeus-Palme). There were around 20 Health exchange programmes which were conducted with Sweden during the course of 10 years.

The next exchange programme in Nursing with West Chester University was conducted in Government Nursing College, Trivandrum from 2015. The group who came for the programme consisted of 10 students accompanied by their faculty Ms Marcia Welsh and Ms Rachel Joseph. An orientation session was given to the members the organising committee at Government Nursing College, Trivandrum. Inaugural session was conducted on 31-12-15. There were visits which was organised for the exchange students in MCH, SAT and Super Speciality Block in Medical College, Trivandrum. Case discussions were also conducted for the students in the hospitals. Visit to PHC’s were also given for the students along with Child Development Centre, Abhaya Gram in Trivandrum. Cultural programmes were conducted both by and for the exchange students for the cultural enrichment of both the group of students.
The deputy chief minister of northern territory Australia- Nicole mansion and the team visited our college on 12/10/2023. The visit was made in connection with the MOU signing with Government of Kerala with regard to the training of nurses from Kerala. Ms Nicole Madison highlighted the needs for nurses from Kerala to Australia also picturized the cultural beauty, life of the people and healthcare situations in NT Australia. The meeting was ended with interactions from the team members with the students led by Mr Maju and Ms Jenny, the director of northern territory. The official meeting was ended by 5:00 PM with the cultural programs conducted by students of the college.
Triple win project is a sustainable recruitment endeavour jointly undertaken by the Federal Government of Germany and Government of Kerala. In collaboration with Norka Roots, the German agency for international corporation and federal employment agency of Germany. this program aims to facilitate the migration of qualified individuals, particularly those with BSc nursing. As part of this initiative the delegates from the University Hospital, Charite, Berlin had visited Government College of Nursing, Thiruvananthapuram on 21/12/2023 at 2:30 PM. An interactive session with the delegates of the hospital was conducted with the audience, including students and faculties. Meeting was adjourned at 5:30 PM.

To understand the healthcare system and to know the approach, process and planning in Kerala Health System, German delegates headed by Dr Edgar Frankie, Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Health, Germany visited Government College of Nursing, TVPM on 16/12/2024. A brief description about the college and the courses was provided by Professor Sreedevi Amma C, Principal, Government College of Nursing, Thiruvananthapuram and highlighted the training facilities available to the students and about academic excellences. Dr Anita Balan Join Director of Medical Education Dr Anita Balan, Joint director of Nursing Education Dr Seleena Shah and Dr Roland Jopp, Advisor Communication and PR, Federal Ministry of Health, Germany felicitated on the meeting. Dr Edgar Frankie, Minister of Health, Germany highlighted the MOU on Triple win program to facilitate migration of Nurses and also emphasized the increasing demand of nurse workforce in Germany. The meeting adjourned at 1:00 PM.
As part of foreign health exchange program, honourable Minister for health and social services, Mrs Eluned Morgan of Welsh Government along with the official team visited Government college of Nursing on 02/03/2024 at 10:30 AM. The team had an initial visit to certain areas of Medical College. The meeting was addressed by Prof. Sreedevi Amma C, Principal, explained about the college and its academic excellences. The meeting was felicitated by Dr Saleena Shah (JDNE), Dr Geetha Raveendran (JDME) and Dr Linaelle J Morris (Principal, Government Medical College, TVPM). Mr Eluned Morgan emphasised the need for more nurses in Welsh and the meeting was ended followed by the interaction between Welsh Government representatives and our students. An interaction session was also arranged with the students of college of nursing. The meeting adjourned with vote of thanks by Mrs Sreeja S A, Assistant Professor, Government College of Nursing.
Delegates from Keele University visited Government College of Nursing Thiruvananthapuram on 15/4/2024 at 2:30 PM. The visit was organized by ODEPC with the key objective for the visit to Kerala is to understand more about the healthcare workforce, learning and understanding about the training that is available to the healthcare students. Their team consisted of two professors and 19 students from NHS Trust who are the senior members from NHS. The meeting adjourned at 5:00 PM after interaction between the students and delegates.
As part of Triple Win Project, delegates from Federal Employment Agency and German Agency for International Corporation visited Government College of Nursing, Trivandrum on 17/4/2024. Delegates consisted of four members including the Director of Federal employment Agency. The official meeting was arranged at the conference hall of the college. A warm interaction session by the delegates and students were also carried out. The key element of the project was to enhance the opportunities of upcoming nurses to Germany.
As part of fellowship partnership with the Government of Kerala, 3 delegates from NHS England and one delegate from West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, United Kingdom visited Government College of Nursing, Thiruvananthapuram on 24/4/2024. The program was conducted as part of ODEPC, Trivandrum Division. The Global Fellowship partnership was with landmark initiative aimed in fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange in healthcare system between Kerala and England. The partnership represents a strategic alliance with a shared commitment to advancing healthcare delivery, enhancing patient outcomes, and promoting innovation in healthcare practices. The official meeting was held at the College conference hall. And interaction session was conducted between the delegates and the students. Meeting adjourned at 1:00 PM.
