B.Sc Nursing

The graduate programme in Nursing was started in Govt. College of Nursing, Thiruvanathapuram, under Kerala University with an annual intake of 25 students on merit basis in the year 1972 . Now there is an annual intake of 90 students and additional 8 students under Prime Ministers Special scholarship scheme. 100 more seats were sanctioned in 2023- 24 academic year for the coures at the Annexe building of Govt. College of Nursing, Thiruvananthapuram. B.Sc Nursing course is revised to Credit based semester system from 2021-22 onwards . Ref: www.kuhs.ac.in.

The duration of course is 4 years. After the successful completion of the course students can opt for one year compulsory Nursing Service with stipend. Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination of the Board of Higher Secondary Education, Kerala, or examinations recognized equivalent thereto, with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English put together are eligible to apply for the course. Aims :

  • Prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as professional, competent nurses and midwives in providing promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative health care services.
  • Equip graduates who can make independent decisions to protect the patient rights in diverse health care settings .
  • Prepare graduate nurses who function in the hospital and community health care . Prepare graduates to enact the role of researcher,teacher, supervisor and manager in a Hospital/ Public health setting/ Nursing Educational Institutions.
